Energy Star Program
Our team members chaired the initiation of the Energy Star program
bringing consensus among diverse groups on the design and launch
of the program. This program was the forerunner for energy
reduction programs across multiple sectors.
World Resources Institute
A case study focusing on the Climate Change impact of the high
tech industry included every major computer company in the
U.S. This study was a year long investigation on the design,
manufacturing, use and disposal of disk drives.
Greening the Supply Chain: EMS Project in Guadalajara, Mexico
A 2-year project funded by the World Bank and 11 large industrial
companies in Guadalajara, Mexico, was one of the first large-scale
efforts worldwide to apply the ISO 14001 model systematically
among SMEs. Team members were asked to adapt the ISO 14001
EMS model to the needs of SMEs; provide ISO 14001 training
to 23 Guadalajara-based SMEs who were suppliers or customers
of the larger companies; and assist the SMEs in developing
and implementing their own EMSs.
Environmental Management System for Automotive Manufacturer
Saves $1m Annually
Working with corporate EH&S management, developed an approach
for implementing an environmental management system across several
facilities. Performed gap analysis of the environmental, health,
and safety management system identifying elements that needed
to be implemented. Identified opportunities for improvement that
realized a savings in energy, water, and materials of $1 million
annually in each facility. Trained divisional/facility team leaders
in environmental management implementation processes.
World Class ISO 14001 Environmental Management System for Cruise
Line
A certified Environmental Management System was developed and
implemented within a six month period in accordance with a Department
of Justice (DOJ) settlement. The ISO 14001 EMS was the first
of its kind in the cruise industry and covers the fleet of ships
and supporting shore side functions. Solutions were implemented
resulting in improved efficiencies in water treatment and energy
usage on ships.
Implementation of Environmental Management System for Largest
Telecommunications Manufacturing Company in the World
The new EH&S management system is certified to the ISO 14001
and compliant with the American Industrial Hygiene Associations
(AIHA) Occupational Health and Safety Management System guidelines.
The facility also achieved OSHA’s top rating under the
Voluntary Protection Program.
Provided strategic consultation and training
in environmental awareness, EH&S aspect identification and management system
development to achieve a world-class program. Established key
EH&S performance indicators that were integrated into the
annual facility management metrics. Assisted facility management
in establishing programs to reduce energy, packaging, and waste.
As a result of the energy program, the facility realized a 25%
reduction in energy.
Chemical Company Consultancy Highlighted
in Newsweek
Assessed environmental management system against the ISO 14001
and conducted environmental management training. Reviewed documentation
and developed documentation structure that integrated the quality
and EH&S documentation systems. Identified environmental
impacts and recommended projects for minimizing risk. A $5
million reduction in facility waste was achieved by linking
quality control metrics with an environmental impact through
the software control system. This achievement was recognized
as an example of how “The Environment Does Pay” in
Newsweek.
U.S. Army Chemical Biological Defense Command (CBDCOM)
Based on the review of multiple facilities and departments, a
proposed scope of the ISO 14001 EMS was developed involving
management elements of CBDCOM (e.g. Environmental Policy),
planning elements of the 3 principal CBDCOM Directorates (Engineering,
R/T, and Operations), and implementation and verification elements
of the Operations Directorate. A 5 day integrated ISO 9001/14001
training course was delivered to key personel including the
Aberdeen Proving Ground Installation, the U.S. Army’s
Advanced Research Labs, and CBDCOM.
